This is another reason I love Wikipedia.

Long, but fascinating piece describing the relatively (no pun) unknown relationship between Einstein and Godel.
“Godel: the union of Einstein and Kafka, had for the first time in human history proved, from the equations of relativity, that time travel was not a philosopher’s fantasy but a scientific possibility. Yet again he had somehow contrived, from within the very heart of mathematics, to drop a bomb into the laps of the philosophers. The fallout, however, from this mathematical bomb was even more perilous than that from the incompleteness theorem. Godel was quick to point out that if we can revisit the past, then it never really “passed.” But a time that fails to “pass” is no time at all.”
A Dozen Books (or So)
My resolutions for 2005 are not yet formalized, which is something I plan to do sometime this year. I do, however, have a few things that I’d like to accomplish. In the interest of making myself accountable for those things I thought I’d jot them down here. The fear of public ridicule if I fail is a pretty good motivator.
The first is to read at least 12 books this year. I’ll rephrase that - to finish at least 12 books. I start them frequently and buy them even more so. The first few are to be books that I’ve already begun.
I’m starting with Once Upon a Number by John Allen Paulos.
Eyes Without a Face
I try to see every film that gets a Tomatometer reading of 90% and above at Rotten Tomatoes. Eyes Without a Face, a French horror film from 1960 received a 100% rating. Nah. A few clever and interesting visuals couldn’t mask (ha!) the fact that it was mostly boring and silly. Skip this one.
43 Folders: A Year of Getting Things Done
Merlin Mann of 43Folders recaps his first year of GTD. It’s a nice summary that I can very much relate to (even after only one month)
The Arsonist Has Oddly-shaped Feet
I’d like to apologize to everyone who has ever harbored even the slightest amount of respect for me. I just laughed my ass off at Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. It just doesn’t make any sense. Now I’m going to be humming Afternoon Delight for frickin’ days.
Tug-o-war
My nifty little Sony P150 has a movie mode that I thought was a silly and unnecessary feature. Turns out recording the occasional movie is kinda fun. For example, this movie of Jess and Zim playing tug-o-war is something I’m glad I have.
Wikipedia Rules!
Wanna learn as much as possible about the horrific Indian Ocean earthquake and it’s aftermath? Forget CNN and whatever other news sites you visit, check it at Wikipedia instead. Amazing.
If Only CNN Was a Wiki…
From a CNN Story about the recent earthquake…
“Some of the tsunamis reached as far as 1,600 kilometers (91,000 miles) from the epicenter of the 9.0 magnitude quake…”
Eh?
